Mace Appointed Construction Manager on Shard Place

REM announce the appointment of Mace as Construction Manager for the 26-storey residential development at Shard Quarter in London Bridge.

Real Estate Management (UK) Limited (“REM”) and Sellar on behalf of LBQ Fielden Holdings Limited have appointed Mace as the construction manager on Shard Place. The residential development replaces Fielden House and is the third building in Renzo Piano’s Shard Quarter, which also comprises The Shard and The News Building.

Shard Place will comprise 180,000 sq ft of space over 26 storeys and marks the third phase of the 2.5 million sq ft regeneration of the area immediately adjacent to London Bridge Station. It will house 148 residential apartments that range in size from studios to one, two and three bedrooms and feature a roof garden on the sixteenth floor that will provide residents with direct access to outside space. Inspired by the unique features in The Shard’s office space, Renzo Piano has also included naturally ventilated winter gardens in many of the apartments.

Mace was one of our trusted partners on The Shard and we look forward to working with them to complete the third building in Renzo Piano's vision for Shard Quarter.

CEO, Real Estate Management (UK) Ltd

Shard Place is situated between St. Thomas Street and London Bridge Street, next to The Shard and The News Building. The building itself will be raised above ground level and set back from the road at St Thomas Street, providing additional retail space and an extended public realm. The development will improve sight lines from Guy’s Hospital Quad, where the new Science Gallery Museum is located, through to The News Building.

Dan Pearson Studio, which was awarded a Gold Award at the 2015 Chelsea Flower Show, has been appointed to design the landscaping for both the public realm and Shard Place, working closely with Renzo Piano Building Workshop and the REM-Sellar development team.

With enabling works now complete, the appointment of Mace positions us one step closer to completing the much-acclaimed Shard Quarter trilogy.
James SellarCEO of Sellar

Fielden House previously accommodated offices and several leisure occupiers. Demolition has been completed and works are underway to create the foundations for Shard Place. The development is on track to be completed in early 2020.

Mace will provide full construction management services for Shard Place including the delivery of the shell and core, the fit out of the apartments, all associated MEP services, residential amenities and the public realm.

The fantastic proposals for Shard Place will complete the Shard Quarter transformation and our appointment to deliver the final jewel in the crown, following a competitive tender process, feels very special. The enduring relationships that Mace builds with its clients are vital to its long-term success.
